Divine Comedy , song XXVIII

In the 9th terrace of Hell those who have split families and communities and those who have coursed conflict and war, are themselves split, their bodies cut up and sliced in various ways, each fitting the manner in which he or she created conflict. One cut up from the top of the head to the arse, all intestines hanging out, another one punished by having his brain cut of from his heart - in accordance with how he split those that blood unites. In the 9th terrance these sinners are condemned to wander in a circle, their scars healing as they return to the start , where they again are cut and sliced to tremendous pain.
